Day Trips in East Sussex
As we are in the centre of Eastbourne we are very fortunate to be able to access all types of transport available to us. The stage coach bus service could take you to Brighton, Hastings or Tunbridge Wells, as well as the many beautiful local countryside areas that it goes to.
Southern Railway is only a 10 minute walk through the town centre, or we could organise a taxi to drop you there.
In the summer months, the local Dotto train service runs from one end of Eastbourne Promenade along its entire length and beyond to the harbour area. This delightful little train could also take you to the Holywell end of Eastbourne, where you could get a cup of tea and some light lunch, all the way back past the bandstand, the pier and then further, via the Sovereign Centre, (where you could go for a swim in the indoor pool) right along to Sovereign Harbour. The Harbour is an exciting and picturesque development which is well worth a visit.
You could relax here with a drink, snack or meal and watch the impressive yachts coming or going, or even go on a boat trip yourself. The Dotto train ticket allows you to break off your journey wherever you please for a whole day, so you can take your time about where you’d like to visit along Eastbourne’s beautiful sea-front.
In Eastbourne, we are very fortunate to have four theatres, which are all extremely popular, The Congress Theatre, The Devonshire Park Theatre , The Winter Gardens and The Hippodrome . These are a really big attraction for Eastbourne as some really wonderful productions are staged at them which often include some very well known celebrities. We regularly have London shows that are now touring the country, plenty of musicals and of course there is the yearly pantomime, which is always a great hit.
Every August, we are proud to say that Eastbourne hosts Airbourne. This is a fantastic 4 day outdoor airshow and it’s worth staying in Eastbourne over the whole of this time.
As well as all the public transport to get you around, there are also many wonderful walks to go on. Why not have a stroll along Eastbourne Promenade and admire the Carpet Gardens, or for the more adventurous, there is Beachy Head which stretches all the way to Birling Gap and then on to Seven Sisters and the Cuckmere River.
You could also treat yourself to some retail therapy at our indoor shopping centre, The Arndale or at our thriving and colourful weekly street market, held every Wednesday.
